Are you a creative and visual person? Do you want to be part of the dynamic visual world? Have you ever thought you could be an Illustrator, a Graphic Designer, a Fashion Designer, a Book Illustrator, a Digital Designer, a Product Designer?

This one-year introductory course to illustration techniques and practices will enable you to develop your artistic and design skills and to begin the process of becoming proficient in illustration while also building a portfolio.

This stimulating course allows you to focus on your creativity while developing your drawing and digital skills. You will be encouraged and supported in visual research, image making skills, concept development and the aesthetic realisation of ideas in response to inspiring briefs. Facilities include a dedicated computer lab with Wacom Cintiq 22 drawing tablets, studio spaces and the full Adobe creative suite for each student with free home licences.

This popular course allows students to progress to further study or be more equipped for employment in the visual industry. Students also enjoy our positive college atmosphere, social events and field trips throughout the year as part of the college experience.

Entry Requirements

Candidates should be able to demonstrate an interest in Illustration and Design and when called for interview should bring a selection of creative work. This could include drawing, painting, photography, 3D work or any other work that demonstrates your creative ability. More information about requirements is available here.

Eligible students may also be selected for work experience abroad under the Erasmus+ programme.

Students who successfully complete this course may apply through the Higher Education Links Scheme to a range of third-level courses including:

  • A wide range of Colleges in the UK and Europe
